Student Reflection on Internship
On November 9-10, 2016, USAID-funded Center for Civil Society and Nonprofit Management (CSNM), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, held a reflective session at CSNM Conference Room on the internship of students. In this semester, there were 3 students on the internship program in three following organizations, namely NET Foundation located in Surin, Ubonratchathani Civil Society Foundation as well as Health and Share Foundation both of which are situated in Ubonratchathani.
CSNM staff warmly welcomed those students before the session started. Later on, each of them gave a presentation on their 3-month internship in those organizations telling what they did during internship and what they have learned. Concerning their activities, they helped staff in those organizations do several projects on different issues, e.g. improving the quality of life of the disadvantaged groups, prevention of premature or teenage pregnancy and life skill training for unintended teenage pregnancy. After that, they went on telling a story that they, throughout the internship, developed a sense of responsibilities, liaison and working skills as well as knowledge.
Afterwards, the students, CSOs where they did the internship, supervisors and CSNM had a discussion on strengths and weaknesses in this internship. They also shared suggestions on the improvement of the future internship program. It is CSNM’s hope that this collaboration will attract this new generation of volunteers to work in CSOs.
