Forum on “Policy and Strategic Approach to Strengthen Civil Society Organizations and its Network towards Mekong River-based Natural Resources Management”
On November 3, 2016, USAID-funded Center for Civil Society and Nonprofit Management (CSNM), Khon Kaen University, Living River Siam Association, Mekong Community Council Network and USAID jointly held a forum under the topic “Policy and Strategic Approach to Strengthen Civil Society Organizations and its Network towards Mekong River-based Natural Resources Management” at Conference Room 2, Building 5, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University.
In this forum, there were a certain number of speakers including academics, CSOs media and People Organization invited to share their experience and perspectives on issues around Mekong River. The talks revolved around the damaging effects of such development on Mekong River as the construction of the Xayaburi Dam, special economic zoning and sand concessions, which have caused problems in communities nearby Mekong River. Apart from that, attendants brainstormed ideas on the network operation that it should change its operation particularly in 3 issues:
- the application of research for policy movement;
- the improvement of the organizational management; and
- the development of the coordination mechanisms of Mekong River Civil Society Organizations.
