The naming of the CSNM- Center for Civil Society and Nonprofit Management.
In academic contexts, the terms “civil society” and “public benefit private organizations” are not significantly different in meaning. However, in general usage, they may carry slightly different connotations. To ensure inclusivity and clarity, both terms were adopted in the name of the Center.
These terms broadly correspond to the English concept of “non-state actors.” The term “public benefit private organizations” also aligns with “non-profit organizations” in English. However, when translated into Thai as non-profit organizations, the meaning tends to be narrowly interpreted—often limited to charitable organizations—thus failing to capture the broader scope intended.
Therefore, the chosen name of the Center aims to encompass the full range of missions and activities that the Center plans to undertake in the future.
